The pump boot is designed to keep the bottom of your pump sealed.  While the pump is not in use, you will no longer need to use a bucket of water to keep compound from drying.  The boot provides a seal that keeps joint compound moist for extended periods of time.  It also allows for clean and convenient pump transportation.  Tip: Lubrication helps for a smooth fit.
